Spring Break Sunday, Mar 23 2008

This is the perfect time to return to those creative ideas you have put off because of the educational system.

You could go to Cancun and party … or you could finish that novel that will make you a ton of money … its your choice.

As for me, I am choosing the first one. Partly because I have no money and partly because I really want to finish at least one of these novels I have started.

So Many Words So Little Time Friday, Mar 14 2008

So today I want to talk about word choice.

Why’s that? Because I am enfuriated by the state of the English (OK, I mean American) language.

Words that irritate me beyond belief:

  • like (except when used to compare two things or to describe affection)
  • Umm (Fill the empty space in your conversations)
  • LOL (Any of the IM “words” when used in real life)

People do not understand how important it is to say what you mean and mean what you say.

Take for example if I say “I think that um like he was so like well totally umm you know cool.” What does that even mean? Who knows! (more…)

Finally … Monday, Mar 10 2008

No more minute writing for me! I have decided to step down from my job as secretary, so you wont be hearing any more about that.

Thank goodness huh? Now I can focus on my real passion: creative writing.

Once I get all that sorted out I may post some of my short stories for you all to read. That will be fun right?

I have writing assignment for you all (Relax you don’t have to do it, but it will get your creative juices flowing!):

  • write a letter to someone you really hate and imply the rage you feel when you look at their face. And when I say imply that means you can NOT write FU and be done, think of a creative way to say that without saying that.

Does that make sense? Who cares!

Is It Really Creative Writing? Friday, Mar 7 2008

The other day I was talking to my friend about writing. He said he used to write fanfiction. But is it really writing?

Personally, I don’t think so. This is why:

  • You did not create the characters or setting. So why should you get credit for someone else’s work?
  • Unrealistic events. Google any fanfiction and you will undoubtedly come across strange pairings and unrealistic actions.
  • It is just advertising. You love a book/ show/ comic series so much you need to get other people hooked.

I’m sure I could think of more reasons if I really wanted to. (more…)

Greatest Film of My Life Thursday, Mar 6 2008

So today I was doing research … cough, cough … and found myself watching Stranger Than Fiction. Oh my gosh, it is so amazing. I was watching the writer try to figure out Harold’s death and I thought “I totally do that.” Especially the part where she gets the death scene idea from going to the store. Isn’t that just how inspiration works? You are doing nothing important when bam! – an idea comes to you that you just can’t let go of. And then she meets Harold … talk about a lifelike character.

I totally used to write like her too, In all my short stories everyone died. I wasn’t like depressed or anything, its just how I wrote. I would get that comment all the time in class when I would read my stuff … “Are you emo?” Umm, no.

Whatever they will be small town losers when I am living the big life.

That’s it … I just wanted to write something.

These Are The Things That Upset Me Tuesday, Mar 4 2008

As you can see this is going to be a rant post. Not going to bother making excuses for why I haven’t posted, because I don’t have any. I was busy and had no ideas.

Back to the real reason I am writing:

I hate note taking … but not just any kind of note taking, the root of all evil writing … the minute taking.

What the heck is that?

Well let me explain … it is a method of torture devised by important type people designed (so they say) to keep track of what happens at meetings.

My feeling? Who cares! (more…)
