So I was looking at my hands today. No real reason. Anyways, I noticed the little writer’s bump on my right middle finger. I could have sworn that it had been bigger. So I googled it and found this article. It discusses the phenomenon of the dissapearing callouses due to technology. I won’t bore you with the details because if you really care you will read the article yourself.
Other links I looked at on the topic discussed the same phenomenon. I am sad to say I have contracted DWBS (Dissapearing Writer’s Bump Syndrome).
Most people regard that rough patch on their finger as a nuisance. As for me I feel it is the mark of a writer. I love writing my books and stories by hand, it bonds me with the generation of writers before me who had not other way to communicate their work. But now with technology it has become a relative of the 8-track.
So what is my point? I’m not really sure. I guess I am reminiscing about my childhood, where everything needed to be written by hand. And I am also acknowedging the past writers on whom I draw inspiration.
